Dr. Jekyl & Mr. Hyde

With the weather being as nice as it was this weekend, Tim could stay inside no longer. He had to get outside. He's been wanting to get my car washed all winter long, so at last the day came. He was probably washing the car for a good hour and a half. Wow, did that baby shine after he was done with it!
On Thursday, Tim & I went over to my parents house for dinner. It was great 'cuz Melissa was home early from school and Tracy & Dan showed up as well. We always have so much fun together as a family, and it's rare that we are all able to get together on the same night. Too bad Jen & Anthony couldn't have made it for the meal.

Enjoying Pasties together

After a delicious meal and drying our tears ('cuz we were laughing so hard), we played a couple games of Mexican Train. I rarely win at this game, however I came very close to winning, until Tim & Tracy decided that I deserved two extra dominoes for being "destructive". Now those of you who know me know that there is not a destructive bone in my body. . . I'm sure Tim & Tracy both have chips on their shoulders and they were taking it out on the innocent. In the end, my mother had pity on me and declared me the winner!! (much to Tracy & Tim's chagrin)

Expelled: The Movie

A week ago one of my friends directed me to check out a new movie that is coming out April 18. After seeing the previews and reading several reviews, I want you to check it out, too. I'm not sure how widespread this film will be in theaters, but has won my support and I think you will find it amusing, educational, and worthwhile.

Ben Stein, the columnist, humorist, actor, game show host, economist, lawyer, law professor and presidential speechwriter acts in this movie as he travels around the world examining the academic climate which has "expelled" those that dare to question the dogmas of Darwinism.

You will laugh and enjoy this film designed to highlight the intolerance of the scientific community and educational systems of our generation. Let's rebel against the social engineering and indoctrination that is so prevalent today and give Ben and this cause our support on April 18.

Below are some reviews and introductions to the film:

Love on Valentine's Day

Marilyn and I had a wonderfully special and romantic Valentine's Day. God caused the details to fall in place so nicely. I made breakfast, drove my sweetheart to work, and then went shopping for flowers and a card. I found just what I was looking for at a store in town. After arranging the bouquet at a friend's house, I returned to the eye clinic to present the roses to my bride. She thought they were perfect and the card brought her to tears.

When I opened up my laptop to study for a message I am giving on Sunday night, hidden in the computer was a card for me. I was deeply touched!

After I picked Marilyn up from work, I took her to Ruby Tuesday as a surprise.

The dinning was exquisite!
(They had a Valentine's Special for $35)

Southwestern spring rolls and tasty salad from the salad bar
Tilapia and shrimp, brown rice pilaf, broccoli, and toasted rye bread

The rich double chocolate cake with ice cream melted in our mouths. We completely enjoyed first dinner at Ruby Tuesday. We will definitely be dining there again.

We could not have had more fun celebrating our love on this day. I am so thankful for a godly wife that so marvelously fulfills her roles with joy and a great sense of humor. Marilyn is trustworthy, loving, and my best friend. God sure made me a rich man when I married her! I love you, Honey.

Christ gives Freedom

Most major psychologists today would deny that a person who has embraced a homosexual lifestyle would ever turn back to the "straight" life. American culture has evolved in such a way as to encourage any who are having gay feelings to live out their thoughts and fantasies. However, World Magazine reports that many are returning to heterosexuality. A growing number of conferences and ministries are rising in attendance and have helped many individuals break free from the lifestyle that many say has had a stranglehold on their lives.

One young man quoted in the World article says that the culture made it easy to come out of the closet and say that his relationship preference was men. However, after sinking into a quagmire of broken relationships and sex with men he did not even know, he sought to be free from the gay-rights movement that made him feel like a prisoner. According to the source, it is now easier in this "age of tolerance" to find many people who have come out of the homosexual movement.

Many Christians who have secretly battled against homosexual temptations in the past have found strength to now admit their struggles and often discover a caring ear and a network of support in their local churches. Believers throughout history have wrestled with temptations to go against their beliefs and morals in almost every area. Whether it is fighting thoughts of hatred and bitterness against someone or giving into sexual thoughts or temptations that violate the Word of God, a Christian can be liberated. With the Holy Spirit's help, the Scriptures, and support of fellow believers, believers can maintain freedom from any sins and temptations that plague them. What an exciting life of power and triumph in Christ! -Tim

The article referenced is titled, "Good from Bad," and is found in the Feb. 9-16, 2008 edition of World Magazine. Link: Good from Bad. Leave me a message if you want me to email you a copy of the article or if you want to comment. World Magazine delivers news from a Christian perspective. I highly recommend a subscription to every Christian family. It is a worthy investment.

Launching Out on our Own

Sunday was a special day for our church. We had a charter service which means that we are now an official independent church. Previously we were considered an off-shoot ministry of the Prior Lake Baptist Church, but now we are our own entity.

The day consisted of a praise & worship service followed by a slide show. It was great seeing old photos from when we first began the ministry. It's amazing how quickly kids grow up! Members from Prior Lake church came down and joined us for the momentous occasion. Tim & I were the first ones to sign the charter (aren't we special :o)

Tim giving a testimony about the Lord's faithfulness

After the service, we, being good Baptists, had an after-church fellowship complete with Subway sandwiches :o) It was such a blessing to be a part of the service and fellowship with friends from our old church. We praise the Lord for how He provides and we feel so humbled to be where we are today. To God Be the Glory!

24/7 Oatmeal

the Boyds

About a week ago, Prior Lake Baptist Church held their 4th annual missions conference. It was such a blessing to be able to attend that conference, despite the frigid winter temperatures outside. There were three missionary families present all sharing their burdens for the country they were ministering to. We were able to hear about Holland, the Philippines, and Brazil. It is amazing how open the Brazilians are to the Gospel, whereas the people in Holland could care less about God.

During this time we were also introduced to Hudson Taylor (listen here), a famous missionary to China. I had heard of Hudson Taylor before but never read anything about him. Tim has told me before that Hudson Taylor is one of his heroes of the faith. A man named Doug Whitley did an amazing job acting out the life of Dr. Taylor and giving us a glimpse into the life of this man of faith. Did you know that for some time before he left for China, he ate oatmeal for breakfast & dinner and slept on hay in order to prepare himself for living conditions in a different country? Did you know that his wife died as well as two of his young children? Did you know that before he went into missions work, he studied to be a doctor and during this time, the Lord miraculously saved him from the jaws of death?

God gives us the strength we need to face obstacles and trials - But saying that is one thing; Living a life of that faith is another. The whole missions conference seemed to focus on having faith in God NO MATTER WHAT! Tim & I really needed to be reminded of that. I know that I was sure challenged. I've asked myself more than once, "Would I be able to eat oatmeal for breakfast & dinner every day for a year or two without complaining?" It would definitely be a challenge!

Dr. Livioco

the Kallins

My dad celebrated his birthday during the conference. The church gave him a huge cake and everyone gave him a birthday card. I love and appreciate my dad so much. It's amazing how many things he has taught me over the years. The Lord has blessed me with such wonderful parents. I can never thank Him enough for placing me into the Groschel family.

A Conservative for Super Tuesday & Presidency

Wanted for the Republican Party: a conservative that can lead the United States in the right direction for the next four years. Needs to have a proven record of leadership and vision for the tough task ahead with a conservative and optimistic outlook to be promoted on Super Tuesday.

McCain simply is not the conservative that he makes himself out to be. There is a reason he is highlighting his military record and not his legislative record. After being in the Senate for years, McCain has tended to lean left on policies like immigration reform, campaign finance reform, and taxes. Furthermore, John is endorsed by liberal groups and left leaning Republicans such as: the New York Times, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rudy Giuliani, etc.

Ron Paul is a constitutionalist, but also a classic libertarian in his condoning attitude toward state illicit drugs, prostitution, and gay marriage. See the following link: Ron Paul interview. One other thing that Paul lacks is executive experience and support needed for the presidency.

Huckabee is a Christian that has good stands on life, marriage, and taxes, but he is weak on immigration, education spending, and the economy. On top of that, Mike has not had a win since Iowa and lacks support and momentum going into Super Tuesday.

Sit on the fence no longer. Personally, research and thought has led me to vote for Mitt Romney. It seems that the only way that we can get someone in as president that will lead the USA in a pro-family and pro-growth direction is to unite around the only conservative presidential hopeful that has a true shot at winning; Mitt Romney.

It is impossible to find the perfect candidate, but the stances, experience, attitude, and delegate position that Mitt has makes him the Republican candidate that most merits the support of conservatives on Super Tuesday.

Make sure that you visit the polls on February 5th, but go in with the right perspective. McCain panders to the left. Paul lacks support, understanding, and credentials. Huckabee is too far behind and
not a strong enough leader to keep the Congress accountable and hold the line against BIG spending. In my opinion, Mitt seems to be the best candidate to further the conservative cause into the next term. I hope that you will support Governor Romney in your Caucus or Primary!

Don't forget to pray for the candidates and for God's blessing on the outcome. Take care.
